In partnership with the Alaska Songbird Institute and Fairbanks Soil and Water Conservation District, NSCF has been awarded the contract to host up to three VISTA volunteers in Fairbanks beginning September 1. Pending approval of next year’s federal fiscal budget, the program could expand to additional VISTAs after October.
The City of Fairbanks had been the VISTA program sponsor up until two years ago. It was the last active VISTA site in Alaska until this summer. Recently, the Pacific Northwest regional Americorps office added a sponsor site in Anchorage.
NSCF looks forward to hosting VISTAs in Fairbanks as a sustained program to assist low-income families and help build non-profit agency capacity.
