Meetings & Studio

Regular Northwoods Book Arts Guild meetings are typically held every other month on the third Thursday of the month, 5:00 to 7:00pm. Our Newsletter announces each meeting date, location, and topic. Everyone is welcome to attend. Guild members attend at no cost; guests pay $5 per meeting to cover material expenses.

Our Studio is located at The Folk School Fairbanks, 2861 Beverley Lane, Fairbanks, AK 99709, Suite 301. “Paper Birches,” our cooperative supply inventory, is also located there, as are most of our classes and workshops. You can google map the address, or simple driving directions follow:

Take Sheep Creek Road out Goldstream Valley.  Turn left onto Ivory Road.  Turn left onto Bonanza Trail (it makes a couple of turns) and turn left onto Beverley Lane. Watch for signs.

OR take University Avenue/ Farmers Loop Road to Ballaine Road, out Goldstream Valley.  Turn left on Goldstream Road. Turn right onto Ivory Road. Turn left onto Bonanza Trail (it makes a couple of turns) and turn left onto Beverley Lane. Watch for signs.

Exchanges

All Guild members and guests are invited to participate in our bi-monthly Book Exchanges. Book Exchange participation is entirely optional. Each exchange features a specific theme or technique. Information about upcoming exchanges is available on this site in the front page news section and under the Exchange menu heading. The rewards of participation include a bit of motivation to actually complete a small book arts project in a two-month time frame, a theme which invites exploration in a new form or practice of skills in book arts construction, and the opportunity to take home an artist book created by another Guild member. The rewards for all, even non-participants, include the opportunity to see and handle a variety of creative expressions of book arts, an opportunity to learn from each other, and the inspiration to try new techniques at home.
